Unfriction

Unfriction is a tiny macOS app for capturing thoughts instantly, before they disappear. It opens in under 400ms from a hotkey and gives you a single place to type. No folders. No decisions. Just open → type → close. I built it because full note apps are great for organizing later, but they’re too heavy for the 1–2 second window when a thought shows up and wants to vanish. Unfriction stays out of the way: • Local-first storage, no account required • Minimal UI designed for speed, not structure • Optional OCR and clipboard history for quick capture • Notes can be moved into Obsidian or other tools later It’s not trying to replace Notion or Obsidian. It’s meant to be the scratchpad before them. If you’ve ever lost a thought because opening your notes app felt like too much work, this might resonate.
