Talanoa is your first email messenger. It turns messy email threads into clean, chat-like conversations, removing quotes, signatures and clutter along the way. Turn emails into actionable todos, manage your calendar without leaving your inbox, and use private, on-device AI to search, summarize and write. Connect Gmail, Outlook, iCloud or any IMAP account in one unified inbox. Everything stays on your computer: no cloud sync, no tracking, no one reading your emails.

I like the privacy angle of it: on-device, no cloud sync. The clean chat view is a nice bonus too. Does the on-device AI work offline?
@alieksia Thanks! 🙏 Yes, fully. You download the AI model once from the settings, and from then on everything runs on your machine: search, summaries, replies, translations. No internet needed, nothing ever leaves your computer.
And it's not just the AI: your emails are stored locally too, so you can read, search and write offline. Anything you send gets queued and goes out as soon as you're back online.
@bettercallj0hn Congrats on the launch! Love your approach and fresh take on emails / conversations! Do you have a mobile app?
@yespana Thank you so much! 🙏
Yes! The mobile app (iOS & Android) is currently in review with Apple and Google, but you can already try the beta today:
📱 iOS: join the TestFlight here 👉 https://testflight.apple.com/join/WMxWemSj
🤖 Android: send me an email at john@talanoa.email with your Play Store email address and I'll send you an invite link
Would love to hear what you think of it!
@bettercallj0hn Congrats and happy launch! I like the idea and support the local & offline approach. Maybe mcp would be a great feature for those who have their own agents running for managing mail.
@paul_koch2 thanks Paul. Yes internal MCP is definitively on the roadmap to allow more complex workflows with your own agents 👍
@bettercallj0hn nice - looking forward to it!
Congrats on the launch @bettercallj0hn!. Re-framing email as pure chat while keeping everything local and on-device without cloud sync is a huge win for privacy.
Question: How does on-device AI perform with massive, multi-gigabyte mailboxes when indexing or searching past threads for the first time?
@kevin Thanks for your message. Great question.
The first indexing happens entirely on your machine, in the background, so it never slows the app down. It’s split in two steps:
Emails from real people first.
That part is usually fairly quick, and AI search unlocks as soon as it’s done.
Notifications and newsletters next.
These keep indexing quietly in the background, and on a big mailbox that can take several hours.
In the meantime, regular keyword search works right away. Once the first pass is done, new emails are indexed as they arrive.
i've known talanoa since the very beginning, i was one of the early beta testers
and it's been crazy to watch it grow from that first version to what's launching today
honestly this kind of tool is an absolute banger
there's nothing more boring than an inbox, and john somehow made it fun
that changes your day to day more than you'd think
it's just a pleasure to use, and i really think it has huge potential
congrats on the launch john
@clement_janssens haha "absolute banger" is going straight on the website 😄 thank you so much, really. beta testers like you put up with the bugs, the missing features and my weekly "can you try this new build?" messages. today wouldn't exist without that and "made the inbox fun" was exactly the bet, so hearing it from someone who's been there since day one means a lot 🙏
Hello @bettercallj0hn , glad to see you launching the app on PH !
I'm following Talanoa since the beginning and it's awesome how the app is growing fast. So many killer features that help me to keep my emails clean.
Since I'm using it, impossible to get back to the original Gmail inbox !
Oh and I really appreciate receiving the "new in talanoa" email and I'm always excited to see what's new.
Excited for the future ! Keep going ! :)
@alexandre_borel Thank you! 🙏 Really happy to hear you read the “New in Talanoa” emails, writing them is one of my favorite parts of shipping. And not being able to go back to Gmail was exactly the goal 😄 Lots more coming, stay tuned!
