Your landlord is keeping your deposit. You know it's wrong. You just don't know what to do about it. GetItBack tells you exactly where they broke the law, missed return deadlines, illegal deductions, penalty multipliers, all based on your state's actual statutes. Free 2-minute check covering all 50 states. If you have a claim, we generate a demand letter ($19) that puts your landlord on notice with the specific law they violated. No account. No guessing. Just leverage.

Hello everyone!
So the idea came from what is surprisingly a common story, my sister moved out of her apartment and did everything the right way, and her landlord just didn't return her deposit. No itemization, no explanation, nothing. She asked around, Googled a bit, got overwhelmed by legal jargon, and eventually gave up. The landlord kept $2,200 because the process of figuring out what to do felt harder than it was worth.
As you can imagine that upset her, and pissed me off. Because state security deposit law is actually really clear. Every state has deadlines landlords have to hit, rules about what they can deduct, and penalty multipliers if they don't follow the rules. A landlord who blows a 21-day return deadline in California doesn't just owe you the deposit back, they can owe you double.
Most renters never find that out. They assume they're powerless or that fighting back means hiring a lawyer, which costs more than the deposit.
So I built GetItBack. You answer a few questions about your situation, it will check your state's actual statutes, and it tells you what your landlord did wrong and what you may be owed. If you want to act on it, you can unlock a demand letter that cites the specific law they violated, for $19.
Free to check. Cheap to act. No account, no lawyer, no giving up.
I hope this can help many people who were in the same situation. This process worked for my sister, and she got her full deposit back, so I'm excited to see how many more people a tool like this can help.
