Endel

Personalized sounds to help you focus and relax

Endel creates adaptive sound environments to give mind and body what it needs to achieve total immersion in any task.

Endel has 4 modes: Relax / Focus / On-the-Go / Sleep.

The core algorithm is based on circadian rhythms, pentatonic scale and sound masking. The sounds adapt to different inputs like time of day, weather, heart rate, and location.

    Pros:

Simple & gorgeous. Not only focus, but also has relax and sleep modes.

    Cons:

Sometimes I want the focus music to be a tad faster?

I've been beta testing this for a while now, around 6+ months. If I need to focus, this is my goto app. You open it, press the "F" icon, and zone into your work. Or if I need to powernap, I pop the sleep mode on and it lulls me to sleep really fast.

The relax mode is also quite soothing. I sometimes pop the relax mode on at home while doing housework.

I highly suggest trying this out.

    Pros:

I usually use it as timer in pomodoro technique — 25 min focused mode and 5 of relaxed one.

    Cons:

Sorry I cannot use it with training apps — waiting for the future integrations.

Felt in love with design and illustrations. Love the sounds compilations!

@rrhoover thank you, Ryan! Really appreciate this, we’ve put a lot of thought and care into how Endel looks, feels (and, of course, sounds)

@nadya_yurinova @oleg_stavitsky @dmitry_evgrafov1 @rrhoover no idea if the sounds are good but I can certainly tell you I love the animations 😍 (and the dark UI, it's usually an afterthought)

Can you save sounds you enjoyed?

@aaronoleary Hi Aaron! No, you can't — Endel is an adaptive sound flow being generated according to immediate inputs like location, weather, cadence, heart rate. But it works offline.

You're requesting a lot of data to personalize the experience. How do you handle and protect these sensitive information?

Oleg StavitskyMaker@oleg_stavitsky
@mahnouel Hi Manuel! We're fully GDPR compliant. And GDPR is one of the strictest policies around storing and dealing with personal data. We're working with Taylor Wessing, one of the best legal firms in the world, on our GDPR compliance. With that said, we're not collecting any data that can be used to attribute a user. Meaning, we don't collect your name, address, email.

@oleg_stavitsky I'm sorry, but being GDPR compliant doesn't mean my data is safe and secured. Almost no one reads through a privacy police and if you hired one of the best legal firms in the world, that only means there could be loopholes inside I don't understand. The service asks for my location and health data and transmits these to your servers. My question is: How do you protect my information? Is it encrypted on your servers? Do you sell it, or give it to partners? Can you read it? What are you doing with it? I think there should be an easy to read FAQ about these on your website / app
Oleg Stavitsky
Oleg StavitskyMaker@oleg_stavitsky
@mahnouel Totally agree on the need for an FAQ on our website! Re: GDPR, it's not just about having proper Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. It's about storing and encrypting data in a certain way and it's about you being able to export and delete that data whenever you want. This is what Taylor Wessing is consulting us on. To your questions: for now and we only store the data locally on your device. We don't transfer it to our servers (that will change as we introduce a proper account system). We're using your geo-location to adapt the algorithm to your time of day and weather. We're adapting the focus mode to your average and current heart rate. We're also using your cadence and steps count to adapt our On the Go Mode to your walks. Hope this helps!

@oleg_stavitsky Thank you a lot for answering my concerns! I have to say I tried the app and really dig it 5/5. If there will be an longterm on-device option I'll definitly stay subscribed 😉 Please keep being transparent about that.
