Most devs check GitHub, Hacker News, DEV and Hugging Face out of habit. DEV·TV turns them into 10 live channels that play on their own, like TV. Glance, catch one story, get back to coding. Leave it on an office screen or a remote team's always-on tab and it becomes shared context: everyone sees what's rising, and anyone can point and ask "did you see this?" One HTML file: no backend, no login, no build step. Real source data, built-in reader, no AI summaries. Free and MIT-licensed.

What a cool idea! To make it really addictive and more like TV, it would be cool to generate short 30-60 sec video clips of anything that you'd read. Like all of those AI papers, Github, and HN articles could be short videos. I'd have this playing in my background while working.

Generated video is tempting, but I've been trying to keep DEV·TV to real source content, nothing AI-rewritten. Generating clips would also need a backend and real costs for every story.
Closest thing right now: the HN Video and AI Video channels play actual talks and demos that Hacker News upvoted. Do give those a try

@busmark_w_nika Hey Nika, mostly developer habits. I started with the tabs I kept opening myself (GitHub, Hacker News, DEV, Hugging Face), then added the stuff I was googling separately: framework releases, new papers, security vulnerabilities.
The other filter was technical. DEV·TV has no backend, so every source has to work straight from the browser with no API key. That ruled out a few I wanted, like Reddit, X and Product Hunt itself.

@busmark_w_nika :) :) That was one of my first thoughts. It would've been fun to launch a TV here with a Product Hunt channel on it, but unfortunately the API needs a private token that can't sit in browser code. If DEV·TV ever gets a backend, it's first on the list.
This is an original tool, but not sure if it wants to be a gimmick or a real source of knowledge?

@dvstudio80 The TV look is the fun part, but the content is all real: GitHub repos, HN stories, papers, releases. Nothing is made up or summarized. So a fun interface for real sources, I guess.
This is very cool. Excellent for my third screen while working in IT. I can gander over and check what is scrolling nicely as I'm doing my work. Nice flow to it. Full screen and channel transition fizz is excellent.

@frank_reyna_techie Thanks a lot for your feedback. This was the main inspiration behind the project: something you can glance at on a spare screen while you work, without breaking your flow. And I'm really really glad the static fizz landed :)

flipped through a few channels and the static/scanline effect actually sells it, it doesn't feel like a dashboard pretending to be a TV. the HN channel pulled a real headline while I was watching, not a cached demo. only thing I'd want is a per-channel refresh interval, GitHub trending moves way slower than HN so 10 channels on the same clock feels a bit off.

@galdayan Yeah that was one of the things I intentionally worked on to give it more of a retro TV feel. I really wanted it to feel like an actual TV experience rather than a dashboard pretending to be one.
And thanks for the important feedback on the refresh intervals . HN and GitHub definitely don't move at the same pace, so having per-channel refresh intervals makes sense. I’ll look into adding that.
Love how DEV-TV reframes doomscrolling into a calm ambient glance, letting devs stay in the loop without ever leaving flow.
