Our first Product Hunt launch landed us #5 Product of the Day. Not bad for our first try.
Tomorrow, we're back with Causo 1.0. And this time, we're launching something much bigger.
Last time, we launched our fundraising tool. Since then, we've built an entire sales product, redesigned the platform, and rebuilt much of the engine behind it.
Here's what Causo does now:
Hey PH, Ivan from Causo here.
Sales databases are great at telling you a company's industry and headcount. They're much worse at the question that matters: does this business actually have the problem you solve?
So we built Causo around the research. Describe your ideal customer, however specific. Causo investigates public sources, finds companies that might fit, and shows the evidence behind each match. Keep asking questions in chat, or use the same research inside ChatGPT and Claude through MCP.
We call it Palantir for GTM: connecting scattered public information into a reason to approach someone. Contact details and emails come after that, once you have something worth saying.
What's the most awkwardly specific ICP you've tried to find? Drop it in the comments.
@ivan_sem I'll go first with an example of how we use Causo internally. One of our own ICPs is b2b startups that sell to niche buyers. One gtm play I've set up goes like this:
1. Pick a niche market - for example, agritech, and build a lead list in it, such as "UK companies selling equipment or installation services to farms, such as irrigation, grain storage, livestock housing or renewables, 5-50 employees"
2. Use Causo to research who these companies have been selling to historically - notable or named buyers, and what are the industry specific buying signals they can be identified with
3. Have Claude prepare a query for the buyers of the leads we found, such as: "UK dairy, pig or poultry farms that applied for planning permission for new livestock buildings in the last 12 months"
A sample evidence snippet from this query looks like the screenshot below :)
4. Use Causo to build outbound sequences mentioning the buyer list we found and the signals we have on it, and mention it in a multi-step sequence to the original lead list. All our outbound also mentions our raccoon in the subject line - it's been a great reply rate driver :)
5. Send, and Profit!!
@ivan_sem Connecting the same research to the ChatGPT and claude through MCP sounds useful.
Can you ask the follow up questions and refine the prospect list without starting the research from the scratches???
@amrita_prajapati2 Yes, exactly! That's one of the main ideas behind it. You can ask follow-up questions, add new criteria, and refine your prospect list without having to start from scratch every time. And with MCP, you can do all of that directly from ChatGPT or Claude :)
@ivan_sem @amrita_prajapati2 hey Amrita, absolutely. You can start with one list, and enrich / manipulate it however you see fit, including doing follow up deep research on both a company and person level.
Causo lives inside your agent like any other mcp connector, so it can work along your broader stack in claude or chatgpt:)
Where you've been before guys?! This product is a must-have for every startup, selling b2b products. Costs a tiny fraction of what it takes to hire another part-time sales person, while bringing leads & conversations... It's a no-brainer for gaining early traction, imho.
Do you use your product to sell itself?
And btw can you disclose what's the average reply / conversion rate from those emails?
@nelly_orlova
Haha, thanks a lot! And yes, we absolutely use Causo to sell Causo. Would be a bit embarrassing if we didn't 😂
On the numbers, we've seen 11-17% reply rates in some of our fundraising cohorts. For B2B sales, it really depends on the ICP, offer and buying triggers. We're still gathering enough data to share a meaningful average across customers.
Conversion rates are even trickier, since a lot depends on what happens after the reply. We'd rather share real numbers than throw around some impressive-looking benchmarks :)
@nelly_orlova appreciate you Nelli!
Absolutely - take a look below in the comments where I shared a real example of a GTM play I run on Causo. We were dogfooding before the product was even released and those early iterations were key to building out the public version :)
Our own reply rates fluctuate at round 10-15%. But we all know that a reply rate is not representative between 100 different users using the same gtm stack - so much depends on how good is the offer, and how good is the creative.
For us a massive asset is the raccoon - we mention raccoons in all subject lines - and that's a huge driver of open rates and consequently replies:)
nice to see the evidence right next to each match, that's what I'd check first. does it show how old a source is, like a news piece from two years ago?
@olia_nemirovski hey Olia, yep, every piece of evidence comes with sources linked so you can see exactly where our agents found what. Fancy giving causo a spin?
@olia_nemirovski
Good question! We link to the original sources so you can always double check our work.
We also prioritize recent signals (typically within the last 2 months), so a 2-year-old article wouldn't be treated as a fresh buying signal.
I took the Causo MCP for a drive a few weeks ago and can confirm it's fire.
Think "highly personalized outreach emails to hard-to-find people without ever leaving your agent UI."
@cushmachine appreciate you man!!!
@cushmachine Thank you very much Charles, really appreciate it!
Hey PH, this is Dawid, one of the two Causo raccoons!
You know how getting a new job or even commenting on someone's linkedin post these days means you immediately get 50 cold emails saying "I saw you did this. Do you want to buy from me?"
It's the main driver behind people saying outbound is dead. A big chunk of the signals layer is commodified - noticing someone's announcement or public activity no longer moves the needle.
Great GTM engineers know that custom buying signals are the real gold: the industry specific, tough to find combinations of facts that help you understand if your prospect really has the pains your product solves.
Causo is your incredibly smart GTM engineering partner. Give it a complex ICP or a specific niche, and it helps you find fitting companies and decision-makers with a mix of custom buying signals. Then, Causo helps you do deep research on companies: like enrichment, but on steroids. Pull out details of tech stacks, company histories, market changes - it's like having military grade intelligence on your prospects.
Causo works with frontier research APIs and powerful raccoon technology to let you work with any data source online, so you can save money on subscriptions. Plug Causo into your Claude or ChatGPT, and have it directly power your GTM stack.
We've developed with version of Causo in tandem with early stage startup accelerators and deep tech companies - who have use of the most specific and tough to find signals out there.
Patent registries, industrial databases, scientific journals, reviews and places data - those are just some of the sources you get with Causo.
Cannot wait to see what GTM plays you build with Causo!! 🦝🦝🦝
@dawid_baranowski 🚀🚀🚀
@thamibenjelloun
Haha, glad the raccoon caught your attention!
Good question! Causo sends directly through the user's connected inbox, so SPF/DKIM/DMARC configuration stays with their email provider and domain. We also have a free deliverability checker to help users verify their setup.
Definitely an important part of getting outbound right. No point writing great emails if they never reach the inbox :)
@thamibenjelloun hey Thami great question. For now we run a bring your own inbox setup, but I think offering integrated inboxes is definitely on the roadmap... I know who to reach out to :)
Database filters are where good lists go to die, so I like the angle. The MCP bit is nice too, means I don't have to move my whole stack. How do you keep the research from drifting at volume?
@jean_bonnenfant_tinct not sure if I understand your question correctly, but generally: company research happens on an individual level, so if you say have a list of 100 companies, and ask Causo: how do they do XYZ? then we trigger a research process times 100, rather than doing a batch process on 100 line items - so we keep every research agent grounded to the context of the company it's researching, the broader list, and your own company context :)
