Audio to Text is a Chrome extension that helps you transcribe audio to text directly in your browser. Record from your microphone, capture audio from any tab, or upload audio files and get clean, readable text in seconds. Designed to be simple and fast for meetings, videos, voice notes and everyday work.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Audio to Text to make transcribing audio as easy as possible.
- You can record from your mic, capture audio from any browser tab, or upload an audio file 🎧
- Transcription happens right in the browser - fast and simple ⚡
- Copy and edit the text or download it as a file 📝
Would love your feedback - what should I improve or add next? 🙌
Really nice execution – especially that everything happens directly in the browser.
Curious what you’ve learned about when people prefer live capture (mic / tab audio) vs. uploading files after the fact. Feels like those are very different mental modes: “I’m in a meeting right now” vs. “I want to make sense of this later.”
Also wondering if you’re seeing use cases beyond meetings – e.g. research interviews, podcasts, or personal voice notes.
Congrats on the launch, and nice job keeping the workflow simple 👏

Hey! Thanks for the thoughtful questions — really appreciate it.
On the first one: from early usage, I see both modes being actively used, with a slight lean toward live capture. Roughly 55% of successful transcriptions come from recording (≈3.7k events), while 45% come from file uploads (≈3.1k events). It lines up well with a “capture it as it happens” mindset — meetings, calls, or something you’re listening to in the moment.
On the second one: right now, it’s mostly used as a lightweight tool for quick transcriptions — short voice notes, meetings, and small audio files when you just want text fast.
Longer term, my goal is to turn it into a more serious, UX-first transcription tool for lectures, podcasts, long meetings, and large audio or video files. To get there, I’m planning to:
Add background transcription for large files
Introduce a “notify when ready” flow
Process long recordings in chunks (since no LLM can handle very long audio in one go)
Gradually increase upload limits well beyond the current 100 MB per file
That’s the direction I’m excited to build toward.
