America.gov is the simplest, fastest way to get information from the U.S. government. Instead of hunting across agency websites, just ask a question in plain language and get a clear answer. Built by the National Design Studio with the General Services Administration, it brings every federal agency together in one place. Available in English, French, and Spanish. Coming next: apply, enroll, and track progress right in chat.

Great that this has launched as I think gov't services in the US really need something like this (gov.uk being a shining example, I assume), so bravo.
Curious about the name choice, as I'm sure you've considered this - why choose a name associated with two continents worth of countries?
Welp, I'll be damned, its legit
@imackinn
I can't recall the last time a government site got buzz that wasn't a total failure. Nice to see it.
@keepkalm I dunno, did you see this?
@chrismessina "is that a bug or a feature?"
I did see some try to play minecraft with it. At least it loaded. That is what I meant by, "total failure."
Big props to Joe Gebbia, the National Design Studio, and the GSA team for putting user experience front and center in public tech. Making federal services feel as simple and intuitive as modern consumer apps is super refreshing to see!
the citations in the demo above are reassuring, but citing a source and being current aren't the same thing. benefit amounts, filing deadlines and program rules change constantly across agencies. is there a defined refresh cycle per agency's data, or could it cite a page that's technically real but already outdated? for government info specifically, a wrong answer that looks authoritative is worse than no answer, since people may act on it as if it's official guidance.
