Hey Product Hunt community, Gowtham here from 1DOT AI. 👋
The problem: Our own Downloads and Desktop folders were full of Scan_0043.pdf and Screenshot 2026-…. Cleaning them by hand takes hours, and auto-sorters feel risky because you never see the plan before they start moving things.
What Files Magic AI does: it's a Mac app that organizes, renames and cleans your files, and shows you every change before it applies.
1. AI Organize. Pick a folder and a template, such as by project or by file type. You see the folders it will create and which files go where. Edit or remove any of them, then organize in one click. Only filenames are used to build the plan.
2. Magic Rename. It reads what's inside a file (PDF text, spreadsheet cells, even a photo of a receipt) and gives it a proper name. Scan_0043.pdf becomes 2026-03-14_Invoice_Acme-Studios.pdf.
Smart Rename: review every suggested name, then apply.
Batch Rename: rules across a whole folder.
Magic Folders: new files get named as they land.
Engines: on-device, or Cloud AI for the most accurate names.
3. System Cleaner. Finds duplicates, unused apps, and developer leftovers like old node_modules, Xcode, Flutter and Gradle caches. Nothing is deleted until you confirm.
Safe by design: preview first, exclude any file or folder, undo moves, and Revert to Original puts any renamed file back to its first name.
Privacy: your folders are never uploaded. Organizing sends filenames only. Magic Rename can run fully on your Mac, and if you choose Cloud AI, the text read from the file being renamed is sent to produce the name.
Pricing: A free plan (one folder) to try it. Paid is $4.99/mo, $29/yr or $49.99 lifetime.
New since our last launches: template-based organizing with an editable preview, Batch Rename and Magic Folders, Revert to Original, and a clear "not supported" label for files it can't read.
I'll be here all day. What file types or folders drive you crazy? Tell me and I'll tell you how it handles them.
Hi Product Hunt, Ram here, Gowtham's co-founder at 1DOT AI. 🙌
One question we always get: "What about my real Downloads folder, the one with 20,000 files?"
That's the folder we built Files Magic for:
You see the plan first. Every folder it will create, and which files go where.
Nothing moves until you approve. Edit any folder, or remove anything you don't want touched.
Nothing is forced. A file it can't confidently place stays exactly where it was.
One click to undo. Every move is recorded, so a whole run can be reversed from History.
Tell us the biggest, messiest folder you have. We'd love to hear how it goes. 😄
P.S. Files Magic AI is coming to Windows. If you'd use it, drop a comment. It helps us decide what to build first.
