EQK utilises an on device engine that is constantly being refined to not only give accurate sounds but sounds that adapts to the users tastes/ears, listening habits and their headphones strengths and weaknesses. The engine utilises a structure very similar to weights to make these decisions and the weights are updated by apple intelligence in the background for user taste and preferences.
The star feature of the app however is the dynamic real time EQ, that tries to (and does so well by the positive feedback received till date) EQ songs on the go, applying varying adjustments each second of the song, and also saves a fully EQ'd songs profile to memory, so on your next run the real-time EQ experience is optimised to the engine's potential.
The app also supports a static EQ for those that prefer a linear and stable EQ experience along with over 2,900 Headphone correction profiles from AutoEQ.
The app also comes bundled with a built in hi-res player with lyrics support, support for most major entertainment apps including- Apple Music, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon prime, and any Safari tab you save as an app and can play audio.
EQK 3.0
EQK began as a way to make sound enhancement through the equaliser accessible beyond audiophiles- to let the rest of us experience music the way the small minority who know the basics already do.
Most people don't know how much difference an EQ tweak can make to their listening experience. Two things kept them out: the technical, formalised structure of every existing EQ app made the first step overwhelming; and the learning curve was steep enough that meaningful benefit only came after real effort.
EQK solves both. The learning curve, by running an on-device engine that together with Apple Intelligence- dynamically tunes music on the go, learns it side-by-side to apply a more accurate EQ on the second play, and saves the per-song, per-app profile locally. Up to 1,000 songs get their own remembered EQ shape, refreshed every second to twice a second- saved by the app, not downloaded.
The intimidation, by dressing what was otherwise a cerebral process in a UI meant to keep you inside the experience of entertainment, not analysing it.
v3.0 introduces the Optimiser engine. It scans for broken song profiles, incompatible layouts, and anything else that might break the seamlessness of the app.
Since a large part of EQK is made by AI, and the whole thing began as a vibe-coded experiment, the Optimiser is a unique answer to what to do with the creative freedom AI gives us in a short amount of time: use it to accelerate the intelligence and working of the dynamic AI EQ engine itself. Some songs may appear over-EQ'd but the overall response from listeners so far has been phenomenal. The Optimiser doesn't touch code, only broken and incompatible app-created data.

honestly this looks really solid, the per-app EQ and headphone correction are exactly what i've been missing on mac. one thing though, would be amazing if you could add a quick A/B compare button right on the main panel so i can instantly hear the difference with the AutoEq engaged versus a flat profile without opening a separate window.

@farrell_gardner Thanks for the kind words Farrell. Yes we do have a button similar to compare on the top right of both the equaliser section and the headphone correction section. If you click on “Bypass” you will be able to instantly hear the raw original sound of the app. We totally get how this nomenclature is unique to the audiophile community and given the nature of the app will consider something that displays its function to the general user better.
