Why I built this:
I run Winans Labs (Winans.AI), I was building a tool for a client who wanted to buy auto repair shops in Houston: find every independent shop, figure out who owns it, how long they’ve been there, and whether the numbers could work with an SBA loan. Pulling that together from state records, county property data and old loan filings took weeks, and the result was so useful I thought: why not do this for every industry and every business in Texas.
Most small businesses that change hands are never listed for sale. The owner retires, someone reaches out, and it’s done. Who Runs That maps 411,000 independent Texas businesses across 81 industries, with the owner of record, years in business, a Seller Score for how likely they are to sell, and a deal calculator for what it would take to buy. Browsing is free, and a free account opens 5 full business files a month.
Feedback that would help most:
Look up a business you know, like your barber, your mechanic or a place you’ve been going to for years. Tell me if the owner and info are right.
If you’ve bought a business, or want to, tell me what’s missing that would make you pay for this.
Tell me if anything on the first page you land on is confusing. I want someone to understand it in 10 seconds.
