Hey Product Hunt! πŸ‘‹ I'm Emanuele, one of the makers behind WebDiff. If you manage websites β€” whether for clients or your own projects β€” you know the anxiety of hitting "Update" and hoping nothing breaks. A disappearing button, a broken form, an SEO tag wiped out... and sometimes you only find out days later, when a client complains. We built WebDiff to solve exactly this. It's a desktop app (Mac & Windows) that takes a snapshot of your website before an update and compares it with the version after β€” pixel by pixel, source code, SEO parameters, links, and network requests. You get a clear report with traffic-light indicators so you can scan dozens of pages in seconds: green means all good, yellow means something changed. Then you click into any page to see the full detail β€” side-by-side screenshots with highlighted differences, source code diffs, changed SEO tags, and more. Overview first, deep dive when you need it. What makes WebDiff different: πŸ–₯️ It's a desktop app β€” your data never leaves your computer πŸ’° Pay once, own it forever β€” no subscriptions ♾️ Unlimited websites and comparisons 🌐 Works with local/staging sites, VPNs, and HTTP auth πŸ“„ Export reports as PDF to share with your team or clients To celebrate this launch, use code PRODUCTHUNT25 for 25% off. I'd love to hear your feedback, questions, and suggestions. We're a small team that ships fast β€” many features in the app today came directly from user requests! Thanks for checking us out πŸš€

I had the opportunity to buy WebDiff from AppSumo years ago and have used it extensively ever since. This is a great tool that runs locally on my Mac (no extra subscriptions needed), allowing me to keep an eye on all my websites and spot issues of any kind. The team is also very responsive, always ready to accept suggestions and requests.

@enricofrascati Hey Enrico, this made our day, thank you! 😊

Users like you who've been with us from the very beginning mean everything to us. The local-first approach is a core belief for us, so it's great to hear it's working well for you.

There's a lot more coming, and as always, your feedback will be essential in shaping it πŸ’ͺ

Cheers! πŸ™

I've been using WebDiff for 6 months now and I am very happy with its capabilities.

First, thank you to the developer for releasing this as Windows desktop software and not another SAAS. We deal with clients that sometimes require the strictest levels of confidentiality or security. Not having to send data to another part of the world or worry about the details of a TOS streamlines the process.

The tool is very useful for doing A/B comparisons of website migrations, upgrades, and optimizations. As a desktop product, there are no limits to the number of pages or the frequency of use. As long as you have a decent internet connection and computer, you are good to go.

What is very convenient is the ability to import a sitemap and go from there. Since most comparisons are before/after, the compared sites are done one at a time. It would be nice to have the option to run both together, like when you're using a staging site. But this is minor. The software runs quickly and presents a local html report that you can use to quickly drill down to inspect exceptions generated, or present this as evidence of success to the client.

You can also compared protected pages by providing credentials so this works with content behind a paywall, membership sites, and protected staging sites. I haven't tried this use case yet, but I imagine it would be useful for get a birds eye comparison of what different access levels see.

The documentation is good, and the support is responsive. I've only had one minor issue early on, and the developer was able to resolve it quickly.

If you do website development, migration, or support, this a resource you need in your toolbox. This has saved me quite a bit of time reviewing changes. Now I have a higher level of certainty about what pages to focus on. Highly recommended.

@jeff_w3 Hi Jeff, thank you so much for this in-depth review, it really means a lot to us! 🀩

We're really glad that our decision to build a desktop app instead of yet another SaaS is appreciated and understood.

Thanks also for the suggestion about running analyses in parallel: we'll definitely take it into account as we shape our roadmap for the coming months! There's always more to come, and feedback like yours will be essential in shaping what's next πŸ’ͺ

Thanks again for the time you took to share your experience with WebDiff

Cheers! πŸ™

I picked up WebDiff from AppSumo about 6+ months ago, and it's a tool that I use on an almost daily basis. Being a web developer and SEO, this tool is invaluable for me in taking before and after snapshots of webpages, allowing me to keep a detailed record of all changes that have been made to the page, not just visual, but code as well.

Over the past few months, there have been a lot of great updates, including a couple of suggestions that I made, such as the ability to search for a specific project. Support has always been extremely responsive and helpful, and I cannot recommend this tool highly enough.

If you do any kind of website work and want a detailed record of changes you've made, this is a must-have tool.
