Hey Hunters š
I'm Jarl, the maker behind Wean Nicotine.
I built this app for myself. I've used snus for years and wanted to cut down ā but every app I tried either assumed I wanted to quit cold turkey, or turned the whole thing into a streak-shaming guilt trip. None of them were built for the slow, gradual approach that actually works for most people.
Wean Nicotine does three things differently:
šæ Gradual by design. You set a baseline, and the app lowers your daily allowance by 5% each week by default. No cold turkey, no shame.
š Fully local. No accounts, no cloud, no analytics. Everything stays on your iPhone. I can't see your data ā and neither can anyone else.
š One-time purchase ā 29 DKK (~$4). No subscriptions. No ads. No data selling. Pay once, own it forever. Built by me alone, on evenings and weekends.
The research backs gradual reduction: a 2019 Cochrane Review found it's as effective as abrupt cessation for long-term success ā but a lot more sustainable for most people.
I'd love your feedback ā especially from anyone who's tried to quit snus, nicotine pouches (Zyn, Velo, etc.), or any nicotine habit. What worked? What didn't? AMA š

Day 2 update š
Thanks to everyone who checked out Wean Nicotine yesterday. A few things I've taken away worth sharing:
The most common question was "why no subscription?" ā honestly because I'd hate paying monthly for a tool I use for 30 seconds twice a day. The one-time pricing forces me to build something worth buying in the first place.
The most common criticism was that the app is iOS-only. Fair. Android is on the roadmap but not imminent ā I'm one person building this on evenings, and iOS is where my own usage is.
If anyone tried it and hit a bug or had a feature request, I read every email. support@iamjarl.com goes straight to me.

For folks still deciding: I added a couple of comparison pages on the site this week ā gradual reduction vs. cold turkey and Wean vs. generic habit trackers ā if you want deeper context on whether it fits how you want to quit.
Thanks again, Product Hunt š
