VoltMap - Design safe 12V boat & RV power systems.

by
VoltMap is a visual canvas to design, simulate, and validate 12V DC electrical systems for boats and RVs. Get real-time learning tips as you build, or run the AI Assistant to auto-connect your components correctly or for expert safety checks. Design it before you buy a single cable.

Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Fredrik, the creator of VoltMap. Refitting a boat or converting a camper van is an incredible project, right up until you have to wire the 12V DC electrical system. I quickly realized that a wrong wire gauge or a missed fuse doesn't just mean a broken fridge, it's a literal fire hazard. When looking for tools to help plan a safe system, everything was either a highly complex CAD program or a basic spreadsheet. So, I built VoltMap. VoltMap is a visual, drag-and-drop 12V electrical simulator that runs directly in your browser (desktop, tablet, or phone). We designed it to adapt completely to your skill level: 👉The "Shortcut" Builder: Drop your batteries, solar panels, and loads onto the canvas. Our AI Auto-Complete will instantly route the wires and calculate the exact safe gauges for you. 👉The DIY Learner: Turn on Learning Mode to get guided, real-time safety tips as you manually connect your system and watch the live physics simulation calculate voltage drops. 👉The 12V Expert: Build it exactly how you want (seamlessly switching between Metric mm² and Imperial AWG), then run our AI "Check & Fix" to audit your schematic against strict marine/RV safety standards. We also built a Public Gallery where you can browse and clone proven setups from other builders so you don't have to start from scratch. 🎁 Launch Day Offer: You can jump in and try the core designer or browse the gallery right now for free. To celebrate our launch, I’m offering the PH community 20% off the Pro tier for your first year with code PH20. I’ll be hanging out here all day. Let me know what you think of the tech, ask any questions!

I’ve always wanted to add solar to my rig but didn't know where to start. The Public Gallery is such a smart move, being able to clone a proven setup from someone else and then just tweak it for my needs takes away all the 'blank page' anxiety. Do you plan on letting users 'verify' their public projects if they've actually built them in real life?

@joel_lundgren1 Smart idea! Had not thought of that one before. That would give further validation to a schema. The platform already does validation as you build, warning about missing protection (fuses, breakers etc), wire gauges that are too thin, wrong connections etc. But some kind of badge like "Real World Project" would be a great validation to other users. And could be a community thing to, picture of the vehicle to go with the schema. What do you think?

Congrats on the launch! I'm impressed by how much VoltMap can already do in its first version. Sadly I don't have a boat or RV so I won't use it for its primary purpose, but it will be fun to tinker with it.

@honason Thanks, appreciate it! I've tried to make it "educational", with real time callouts with tips and tricks as you make connections between components, so people can use it as a tool för teaching themselves 12 volt DC electronics as well.
