Vitals 1.10: fan control and fan curves for Mac
Hi everyone, Atta here. I make Vitals, an Activity Monitor alternative for Mac. Version 1.10 lets you control your Mac's fans.
macOS waits before it speeds the fans up. On a MacBook Pro, they often stay at their slowest until the chips are already hot, then catch up.
During a long build or an export, the Mac gets hot first and loud after.
What's in 1.10:
- Three modes. Automatic leaves the fans to macOS, as before. Fixed sets each fan to a speed. Curve makes the fans follow the CPU, the GPU, the hottest sensor or the battery.
- Two presets to start from. Quiet keeps the fans slow until 60 °C. Cool moves air from the start. Drag any point to make the curve your own.
- Two rules. Quiet on Battery keeps the fans quiet when you're unplugged. Cool While Apps Work Hard speeds them up while an app you pick keeps the Mac busy, such as Xcode during a build.
- Max runs the fans at full speed for 5, 15 or 30 minutes, or until a busy app has finished.
- All of it works from the menu bar dropdown too. The last 24 hours show temperatures next to fan speed, so you can see what made the fans loud.
- Two Shortcuts actions. Claude, Codex and Cursor can also see how the fans are set, through Vitals' MCP server.

Above 95 °C, the fans always run at full speed. When Vitals quits, macOS takes the fans back straight away.
Since 1.10, there's also Suspend and Resume for apps, filter words like cpu>10 or port:3000, and how long a battery charge lasts.
It works on Macs with fans, Apple silicon and Intel, on macOS 15 or later. I tested it on an M2 Max. If a fan on your Mac doesn't follow, tell me the model.

Do you leave your fans to macOS, or would you rather they came on earlier?
