Hey Product Hunt! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm excited to share USBRecognized โ€” a free collection of browser-based hardware testing tools built for anyone who's ever wondered "is my keyboard actually working?" or "why does my mouse double-click?"

The Problem

Every time you buy a new keyboard, suspect a dead pixel, or prep for a video call, you end up Googling for a random tool โ€” downloading sketchy .exe files, granting admin permissions, and hoping nothing breaks. It's 2026. That shouldn't be the experience.

What We Built

USBRecognized puts all your device testing needs into one browser tab. No downloads. No installations. No accounts. Just open a page and start testing.

Currently available tools:

  • โŒจ๏ธ Keyboard Tester โ€” Press every key, check NKRO/rollover, detect ghosting and stuck keys

  • ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ Mouse Tester โ€” CPS test, double-click detection, polling rate check, click latency

  • ๐ŸŽฎ Gamepad Tester โ€” Full controller mapping for Xbox, PlayStation, and generic gamepads

  • ๐Ÿ›ธ Refresh Rate Test โ€” Monitor Hz detection, ghosting/motion blur test, UFO-style animation

  • ๐Ÿ” Dead Pixel Test โ€” Full-screen color sweeps to find stuck and dead pixels

  • ๐ŸŽค Microphone Test โ€” Real-time waveform visualization, input level meter, noise detection

  • ๐Ÿ“น Webcam Test โ€” Camera preview, resolution/FPS check, mirror and snapshot tools

More tools in the pipeline: touch screen, touchpad, color accuracy, speaker/surround, stereo L/R balance, USB device diagnostics, browser info, and screen resolution checker.

Why It's Different

Most hardware testing tools fall into two camps: clunky desktop apps that haven't been updated since 2015, or ad-filled websites that feel like they're from 2005. We wanted something that feels modern, fast, and trustworthy.

Here's what makes USBRecognized stand out:

  1. ๐Ÿ”’ Privacy First โ€” Everything runs locally in your browser using Web APIs (WebHID, WebUSB, WebRTC, Gamepad API, MediaDevices). No data is ever uploaded to a server. Your camera feed, microphone audio, and keystrokes never leave your device.

  2. โšก Instant โ€” No download, no install, no setup wizard. Click a tool and you're testing in under a second.

  3. ๐ŸŒ Truly Cross-Platform โ€” Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, and even Android. Any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) gets you started.

  4. ๐Ÿ’ฏ Free Forever โ€” No registration, no paywall, no "upgrade to pro" popups. Unlimited tests, every tool, zero cost.

  5. ๐ŸŒ 10 Languages โ€” Available in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Turkish, Indonesian, Thai, Russian, and Japanese. Because hardware problems don't care what language you speak.

Who It's For

  • Gamers checking polling rates, NKRO, and refresh rates before a competitive match

  • Remote workers verifying their webcam and mic before that important Zoom call

  • Keyboard enthusiasts testing new switches and detecting ghosting

  • IT support running quick diagnostics without installing software on a user's machine

  • Anyone who just bought a new monitor and wants to make sure there are no dead pixels

The Tech

Built with Astro for blazing-fast static rendering, React islands for interactive tool components, and a whole lot of modern Web APIs. The entire site loads in under a second on a 3G connection.

We're a small team (okay, mostly just me ๐Ÿ˜…) building this because we believed hardware testing should be as easy as opening a URL.

What's Next

  • ๐Ÿ”Œ USB device diagnostics via WebUSB

  • ๐Ÿ“Š One-click full system health report

  • ๐ŸŽจ Color accuracy and gamut testing

  • ๐Ÿ”Š Speaker and surround sound testing

We'd love your feedback! What tool should we build next? What's the most annoying hardware test you've had to do?

Try it out at and let us know what you think! ๐Ÿš€
