Why I built a bulk photo geotagger that runs entirely in your browser
Hey everyone,
I'm Johnny, the maker behind Geo-Tag-It. We launched today and I wanted to share the backstory in case it's useful to other builders or anyone working in local SEO, real estate, or photography.
The problem I kept seeing
Geotagging photos (embedding GPS coordinates into EXIF data) is one of those unglamorous tasks that many local SEOs swear by. It's a staple of local SEO playbooks, used alongside Google Business Profile optimization and on-page location signals. Real estate agents and local businesses who take the time to geotag their listing photos are doing something their competitors mostly aren't.
But almost nobody does it. Why? The existing tools are either desktop-only (GeoSetter), locked inside expensive software (Lightroom), or sketchy web uploaders that ask you to send hundreds of photos to someone else's server.
For real estate agents shooting 40 photos per listing, photographers returning from a full-day shoot, or SEO agencies managing client image libraries, the math just doesn't work. So most people skip it, and hand a small edge to whoever bothered.
What I built
Geo-Tag-It is a bulk photo geotagger that runs 100% in your browser. Drop in your whole shoot, pick a location on the map (or use AI to detect landmarks), and download the geotagged files. Nothing uploads to a server. Your photos never leave your device.
A few things I'm proud of:
GPX & KML Track Sync. Upload a GPS track from Strava, Garmin, or a drone flight log exported to GPX, and every photo auto-matches to its location by timestamp. This was the feature real estate photographers and hikers asked for most.
AI Smart Location. For photos with no GPS data, AI detects recognizable landmarks and suggests coordinates.
Reverse Photo Location Lookup. A free tool that finds where any photo was taken, either from EXIF data or AI landmark detection.
Free companion tools. EXIF Data Viewer, Image Resizer, and EXIF/GPS Remover (for the privacy-conscious).
All of it is free to try. Pro unlocks unlimited bulk processing and GPX Sync.
Who it's for
Three audiences have shown up so far:
Real estate agents who want their listing photos to help with local visibility
Photographers who want an easy way to geotag an entire shoot without manual work
SEO agencies embedding GPS data into client photos before Google Business Profile uploads
What I'd love from you
Two things:
Honest feedback. Try it, tell me what's missing. I'm here all day.
If you know someone in real estate, photography, or local SEO who fights with this problem, I'd be grateful if you passed it along.
Thanks for reading. Johnny
