Would a classroom typing leaderboard motivate students to practice more?

I'm building a Typing Class feature for TypingBIRDS where teachers can create a class, invite students with a code, and track typing progress through leaderboards and competitions.

The idea is simple:

• Teachers create a class
• Students join with a code
• Students complete typing races
• Leaderboards update automatically
• Teachers can see progress over time

For teachers and parents:

Would competition motivate students to practice more, or would personal progress tracking be more effective?

I'd love to hear how you'd design a classroom typing system.
