We just launched TexMax ask me anything about building an Android-SIM SMS gateway

by•

Hey everyone 👋 I'm the builder behind TexMax, live on Product Hunt today.

The short version: most SMS APIs (Twilio, Plivo, Vonage) make you rent a virtual or short-code number and pay per message segment on top of a subscription. TexMax takes a different approach: it pairs your API to an actual Android phone with a real SIM card, so messages send and receive over a normal carrier connection instead of a rented number. Flat monthly price, no per-segment math, no A2P 10DLC number rental overhead.

I built the whole stack myself: the Android app, the relay/backend, the admin dashboard, and the API. Happy to go deep on any of it:

  • Why a real-SIM gateway instead of a virtual number

  • How message delivery, reconnection, and dedupe are handled under the hood

  • What it's like keeping a phone's connection alive as the "server"

  • Where this fits (and doesn't) vs. Twilio-style providers

  • What's next on the roadmap

Ask me anything — technical, product, or "why would I use this instead." I'm here all day.
