Surface Pixel - Artist Portfolios: Vision → Journey → Moment
by•
Surface Pixel has been rebuilt from the ground up!
Don't just post the final piece of artwork — show the whole road there. Surface Pixel turns every work into a dated timeline from first sketch to final render, with critique anchored to the exact pixel and a community that follows the making-of, not just the money shot.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Micah, the founder of Surface Pixel, and I'm excited to share what we've been building.
Most creative platforms focus on one thing: the finished product.
But as someone who's always enjoyed seeing how things are made, I've felt that we're missing one of the most interesting parts of creativity — the process itself.
The early sketches, rough ideas, failed attempts, revisions, and all the small decisions that turn an idea into something finished. That's often where the most interesting work happens, but it's also the part we rarely get to see.
That's why I built Surface Pixel — a creative portfolio and community where the journey matters just as much as the final result.
Instead of uploading a finished image to a traditional gallery, artists and creators can:
🎨 Document their process — Build visual timelines showing how a project evolves, from the first sketch or concept to the final piece.
🖼️ Organize their creative work — Group related projects and show how individual pieces fit into a larger body of work.
💬 Get meaningful feedback — Receive comments and critiques pinned directly to specific areas of an image, rather than vague feedback buried in a comment thread.
👥 Connect with other creators — Follow artists, discover new work, share ideas, and learn from how other people approach their craft.
Whether you're a 3D artist, illustrator, designer, photographer, or just someone who enjoys creating things, I want Surface Pixel to be a place where you can share more than the end result.
We're still early, and that's why I'm launching here.
I want to hear from actual creators about what works, what doesn't, and what would make Surface Pixel genuinely useful.
A couple of questions I'd love your thoughts on:
- Do you enjoy seeing the creative process behind someone's work, or do you generally prefer seeing just the finished result?
- If you're a creator, would you find value in documenting your process as part of your portfolio?
Thanks for checking it out! I appreciate any feedback, positive or critical.
