People don’t really want to manage subscriptions. They want reassurance.

That sounds a little strange coming from someone building a subscription management app, but it’s probably the biggest thing I learned while working on Subo 1.3.

Of course people need to add, edit and organize their subscriptions.

But that isn’t usually why they open the app.

Most of the time, they want reassurance:

What’s coming up?
What needs my attention?
Am I missing anything?

I realized Subo’s main screen was trying to answer those questions while also being the place where you manage everything you track.

One screen, two different jobs.

So I split them:

  • Upcoming is now built around awareness: what happens next, the month ahead, and things worth paying attention to.

  • Subscriptions is built around management: everything you have, in one dedicated place.

That separation also gave features like the visual calendar and Heads up a much clearer reason to exist. They’re not just more information. They help reduce the need to keep checking.

It ended up becoming the foundation for Subo 1.3, which I’m bringing back to Product Hunt tomorrow.

What do you think: are there products you use mostly for reassurance rather than active management?
