StereoLift Live: stream high quality 3D from Win/Linux to Meta Quest headsets
Hi Product Hunt, I’m Marvin, the creator of StereoLift.
StereoLift Live is now available.
It turns your Windows or Linux desktop into stereoscopic 3D and streams it directly to Meta Quest. Your NVIDIA GPU converts the picture as content plays, so you can use your usual desktop applications without uploading a video or exporting a converted file.
I’ve focused on both the picture and the experience around it:
Full resolution for each eye. At 1080p, each eye receives 1920 × 1080, compared with 960 × 1080 in Half-SBS. Live streams directly to its own Quest viewer, with no additional desktop-streaming app required. Higher and different resolutions are supported and depend on your monitor setup and GPU class (Minimum RTX2080 with 8GB VRAM for 1080p30)
Fine detail and consistent depth in motion. The video-depth model considers multiple frames together, helping preserve object shapes and fine depth differences as the scene moves. This quality-focused 3D view is buffered, currently around eight seconds behind the PC on standard settings.
Your hands control the whole desktop. Point, click, scroll, drag and type with the virtual keyboard in responsive 2D, then switch to 3D viewing. Controllers work too.
A screen that fits how you want to watch. Move, resize and tilt it naturally, whether you’re sitting, reclining or lying down doesn't require a specific viewing mode or resetting your headset origin. An interactive guide demonstrates the gestures and lets you practise them inside the headset.
The native Quest app is currently under 30 MB and the desktop server supports Windows and Ubuntu 22.04/24.04. The screen stream is encrypted over your local network and does not pass through cloud servers. The online services handle account and access.
Some of you may already know StereoLift.com. That remains the cloud option for creating 3D videos to download and keep, without needing a suitable local NVIDIA GPU. It supports ordinary videos for compatible headsets, 3D TVs and projectors, plus VR180 and 360° conversions.
The cloud service also already includes Clarity and Smooth (https://stereolift.com/stereolift-1-5), newer rendering modes that reduce double contours in difficult scenes. Bringing those improvements to Live is part of my roadmap.
Beyond that, I’m planning virtual-display support, capture-card and webcam inputs, and additional clients including Fire TV for compatible 3D TVs and projectors. The PC would continue to handle conversion, opening up more sources and more ways to watch.
All current Live features are free during early access, with no daily viewing limit. You can try it now while the Product Hunt feature is scheduled for October 30.
