Inkterface - An open-source e-ink faceplate for your Steam Machine

Inkterface is an open-source, magnetic E-ink faceplate for the Valve Steam Machine. It runs headlessly on an ESP32 Feather via BLE, featuring a 5.83-inch monochrome display, 3D-printable STEP layouts, C++ firmware, and a lightweight Linux background stats daemon.

Hi everyone!

Valve isn’t selling an official e-ink faceplate for the , but they did something better — they open-sourced . Hardware files, firmware, and the Linux app are all on GitLab under the MIT license, so anyone can build their own.

It’s a surprisingly chill addition to a very powerful machine. While the Steam Machine is busy doing heavy lifting, this little e-ink screen just sits there quietly showing whatever stats or readouts you want.

Kind of nice to have something calm and low-power staring back at you when everything else is running hot...!
