Stand Reminder - A macOS menu bar app to prevent prolonged sitting

by
Stand Reminder is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app that actually makes you stand up. Unlike apps that send system notifications you can swipe away, Stand Reminder shows a modal above all other apps — dismissible only by clicking "I stood up!" This small friction is the whole point. Set reminders by interval or at specific times of day. The modal resets after sleep, appears on whichever display your cursor is on, and supports dark mode. No account. No tracking. Just stand up.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I built Stand Reminder out of pure frustration. I have a sit-stand desk, but it has no built-in scheduling feature. So I tried a SwitchBot finger robot to physically press the raise button on a schedule — it worked for a while, but the Bluetooth kept dropping unreliably. I gave up. Instead of fighting hardware, I built a simple software solution: a menu bar app that shows a modal window you can't ignore. Unlike system notifications that vanish with a swipe, this one stays on top of everything until you click "I stood up!" It's free, open-source, and does exactly one thing. Would love to hear from anyone else with a sit-stand desk — what's your routine? And happy to answer any questions!
