I wish I had a b&m business just so I could get one of these.
No, you don't. You really don't. ;)
Square announced a while back that they would have a product for Apple Pay & Chip cards... now you can reserve one. I love paying with square, but I love paying with Apple Pay more... Now They're easy together! One of my favorite square features is the auto email receipts (since it knows my cc) -- but I'm curious how that'll work with Apple Pay tokenization.
I'm excited/curious to see how they have to learn & adapt behaviors with this like they had to when they first introduced the Reader. For example when Square first launched some people were unsure how to sign—"do I use a pen?"—so Square told all their customers to say something like "Use your finger to sign here" (as well as display that on the screen) so people weren't confused. It's hard to remember now, but that's the way it was back then because we didn't have the paradigm yet. I mention this because I used this at Blue Bottle Mint Plaza when they were beta testing it a few months ago, with my Apple Watch. One of the things that happened was the contactless reader was by the Square Stand, in other words not right next to me at the edge of the counter. So I had to physically lean over the counter a bit, as well as turn my body (because my watch is on my left arm and the reader was on the right of the stand) to pay. It was physically awkward. Not the end of the world, but a learning experience for everyone :)
Amazing first hand account! Thanks :) I wonder if they could build one in to the back of the square stand?
Does this accept other mobile NFC payment e.g., Android Pay, Sumsung Pay etc?
From their websites: "One reader, two ways to get paid: accept Apple Pay (and other contactless payments) and EMV chip cards, too." You could read "other contactless payments" as TBD...
This page has references Android Pay and Google Wallet so presuming yes.
Square + Apple Pay = bliss. Wish all the food trucks in my area would use this.
super interesting
They should definitely make an updated Square Stand with an embedded reader like this. I can imagine it's easy to lose it in a busy store as a standalone device, and it would be nice to make it one integrated register.
Wow, I could see this being pretty huge for creators at conventions everywhere (thinking specifically of comic book creators). Really speed up the sales process & make things way easier for possible customers.
