Hi Product Hunt!

I built Shizi Adventure Island (识字冒险岛) to give kids ages 5–8 a calm, focused way to practice their first 800 Chinese characters—aligned with the primary school writing curriculum across Grades 1 and 2.

Most kids' literacy apps are overloaded with noisy animations, upsells, account walls, and endless screen time. I wanted a calmer, local-first alternative:

- 800 curated characters organized into 8 themed islands and 80 levels (10 characters per level), with pinyin, vocabulary phrases, custom illustrations, and pronunciation audio.

- Flashcard-first learning paired with 4 review mini-games: Listen & Pick, Memory Match, Word Drag, and a 75-second Timed Challenge to unlock the next level.

- 8 unlockable companion pets and achievement badges earned through study stars.

- Healthy boundaries by design: a default 12-minute daily practice limit and a math-gated Parent Center with 7-day learning reports.

- 100% offline-first & open source (MIT): all progress stays on-device in SQLite, with zero ads and no account required.

You can try the interactive web app directly in your browser or inspect the Expo + React Native codebase on GitHub. I'd love your feedback on the learning flow and mini-games!
