Building a native Codex CLI for Android — launching tomorrow, AMA
by•
Hey everyone — I'm the maker of Shelly.
Short version: it runs the OpenAI Codex CLI natively on Android. No PC, no Termux, no proot. I built the whole thing on a phone — and I can't actually write production code myself. I describe problems to Codex in plain English, review its patches, and ship.
v6.0.0 adds an Agent Chat pane that reads Codex output live (one-tap fixes), a home-screen Scouter widget with quota/cost/rate-limit gauges, and full Z Fold support (that last one was the hardest part by far).
It's open source, GPLv3: https://github.com/RYOITABASHI/Shelly
Launching here tomorrow. Happy to answer anything about the architecture, the "vibe coding" workflow, or how an app ends up living in the OS layer. Ask away.
