New York Streets - a 1920s crime RPG in the browser, with cut scenes

by•

Hey Product Hunt 👋

New York Streets is a persistent crime RPG set in Prohibition-era New York. It plays in the browser, on desktop or phone.

Browser crime games have been around for twenty years, and most of them tell you what happened in a line of text: "You robbed the bank. +$500." I wanted to see it. So every crime and every fight in New York Streets ends in a short cut scene: your own character walks onto a rainy street, and the action is told in painted pictures. A wallet thrown into a puddle. A knife catching the gaslight.

What you can do:

  • Seven crimes, from picking a pocket to hitting a bank. Your chance of success grows with experience and better weapons, and drops as the police heat on you rises.

  • Your own character: four body types, faces, hair, suits, hats and weapons, and the cut scenes show you as you're dressed.

  • Fights with other players for a share of what they carry. Lose and you're on the pavement.

  • Crews and territory: team up and take districts.

  • Businesses, from a newsstand to a nightclub, that earn while you're away.

  • A player market for buying and selling gear.

Every result is worked out on the server, so the numbers can't be faked from the browser.

It's free to play. Optional coins (from €0.99) buy energy refills and a few extras, never wins.

We're in closed alpha. Join the waiting list today and invites go out in batches. I'd love to hear which cut scenes land and which don't. They're the heart of the game, and I'm still shaping them.
