I built a focused SaaS for agencies that manage monthly retainers

I’ve just launched Retainer on Product Hunt.

Retainer is a B2B SaaS built for agencies, consultancies, dev shops, and professional service teams that manage recurring client retainers.

The problem I wanted to solve is simple: retainer hours can become surprisingly messy when they’re managed through spreadsheets.

Teams need to keep track of:

  • Monthly contracted hours

  • Hours used

  • Unused hours and rollover

  • Rollover caps

  • Overage hours and costs

  • Billing-period history

  • Whether previous periods were calculated correctly

Retainer uses a deterministic ledger engine to handle these calculations and includes an automated auditor that checks the underlying hour and rollover rules for consistency.

It’s currently a bootstrapped, pre-revenue project, and I’m mainly looking for feedback from people who work with agencies, retainers, client billing, or B2B SaaS.

If you manage recurring client retainers, I’d genuinely love to hear:

What do you currently use to track retainer hours, and what is the most frustrating part of the process?
