I built 5 Enterprise SaaS platforms. Now I'm pivoting. Here is what I learned about multi-tenancy.

Hey everyone 👋

Over the last few months, I engineered 5 different B2B SaaS platforms (Next.js 15, Laravel 11, PostgreSQL). They include an AI Outbound CRM, a Website Health Scanner, and an AI Video Studio.

The hardest part wasn't the AI integration it was building the Master License Servers so that these apps could operate as fully white-labeled multi-tenant systems.

Here are my two biggest takeaways from building enterprise architecture as a solo engineer:

  1. Decouple Licensing from the Core SaaS: Keeping the Master License Server as a standalone app saved me from catastrophic failure when issuing JWT tokens and handling offline grace periods.

  2. AI Provider Failovers: Building a BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) gateway that rotates between OpenAI and Anthropic is non-negotiable for enterprise clients who want to control their own API costs.

The Pivot: I am now making a hard pivot to a completely new venture today. Instead of letting these 5 massive codebases sit idle or wait 90 days on an acquisition marketplace, I've decided to hand over the unencrypted Master Source Code and License Servers to other agency owners and developers in the community so they can rebrand and run them.

I’d love to hear from other makers: Have you ever had to walk away from a massive codebase to pursue a new idea? How did you handle the transition?

(PS: If any developers or agencies want to acquire the source code to these 5 apps to skip the dev phase, let me know in the comments and I'll send you the details!)
