From steel fabricator to shipping two AI apps, solo

Hey Product Hunt,

I'm DOCL. By day I'm a steel fabricator. No CS degree, no tech background, just hobby-level skills and a curious mind for how things work. Everything I know about building software I taught myself at night and on weekends, around a full-time trade job.

It started with my wife. She cannot make a small decision to save her life. What to wear, where to eat, which thing to buy. So I built her something for it. That became Picksie, an AI decision fairy that just picks for you and tells you why. She actually uses it, which is still the thing I'm most proud of.

I could never have built it on my skills alone. What changed everything was leaning fully into AI, as the thing that let a hobbyist punch way above his level and actually ship.

Then, trying to get Picksie in front of people on a $0 budget, I hit a new problem: I had no idea which creators were actually worth paying. So I built a tool for that too, Scruta, which just launched here on Product Hunt.
