Do gamers actually want ownership from a cloud gaming platform?
Cloud gaming solved one major problem: Hardware limitations. You don't need an expensive gaming PC to play demanding games. But while researching cloud gaming, we found another problem. You're still essentially renting access to the gaming experience.
That made us ask: What do gamers actually want from cloud gaming?
So we started talking to gamers and researching the market. Three things kept coming up: Ownership, Accessibility, Freedom. That's where Project YGC — Your Game, Your Choice started.
Our idea is to build a cloud gaming platform that doesn't just make gaming accessible through the cloud, but also gives players more ownership and freedom over how they play. At first, we thought getting feedback from gamers would be easy. "We were wrong."
What surprised us wasn't just the feedback. It was the level of frustration some gamers already had with cloud gaming.
In our research, around 70% of the gamers we surveyed/responded to expressed frustration with current cloud-gaming experiences. The reasons weren't just hardware or performance.
They were also about:
• Game access
• Subscription/rental models
• Ownership
• Platform limitations
• Freedom of choice
That changed our perspective.
We weren't just building another cloud gaming product.
We were trying to solve a problem that real gamers were already telling us they had.
So now our focus is:
Ownership + Accessibility + Freedom
while also working on the technology needed to make cloud gaming feel responsive.
We're exploring edge gaming to bring computing closer to players and tackle one of cloud gaming's biggest technical challenges:
Latency.
But we're still early.
And there's a much bigger challenge ahead:
Finding the real customers who depend on cloud gaming and building something they genuinely want to use.
We don't want to assume we know what gamers need.
We want to build it with them.
That's what we're doing with Project YGC — Your Game, Your Choice. We're looking for gamers who rely on cloud gaming today. If that's you, we'd love to hear: What frustrates you most about cloud gaming today?
What would make you switch to something better?
