I redesigned Saturn to show how distractions return, not how long they last
Most screen-time tools answer one question: How long did you spend on a website?
But while building Saturn, I realized that number was missing the part of my behavior I actually wanted to understand.
Spending 20 minutes on Instagram once is different from closing it, reopening it, visiting something else and returning again five minutes later. The total time might be identical, but the habit isn’t.
So I built a Behavioral Engine for Saturn.
It looks for observable browsing patterns such as:
Returning to a site after closing its tab
Reopening it between visits to other websites
Making several quick visits from new tabs
Repeatedly trying to access a site after a limit blocks it
Extending access through multiple snoozes
Stopping a visit before it becomes a longer session
Saturn's new Daily Summary turns the strongest pattern from that day into a short insight on the dashboard.
For example:
“Instagram keeps coming back after tabs close. 2 returns after closing a tab today.”
Or:
“X needed more than one pause today. 2 snoozes added 20 minutes of extra access.”
The goal isn’t to diagnose the user or make assumptions about why they behaved a certain way. Saturn only describes what happened clearly enough that they can recognize the pattern themselves.
I built the dashboard to feel less like an activity report and more like a useful reflection on the day.
I’d love feedback on one question:
Which would be more likely to change your behavior: seeing your total screen time, or seeing exactly how you kept returning to a distraction?
Saturn is currently available for Chrome and newly Firefox, and I’m continuing to improve the Behavioral Engine as I see which insights are genuinely useful.
