Scholia - The social layer books never had.

Every reading app is built for reading alone. Goodreads rates books. Kindle highlights privately. Nothing puts the conversation inside the text. Scholia does. Highlight a passage — your group sees it instantly, right there in context. They reply, react, build on it. No separate chat. No lost threads. Stuck on a dense passage? Tap explain. AI breaks it down without you leaving the page. Built for serious readers — philosophy, theology, literature, research. Read together. Finally.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I built Scholia because of a conversation with a friend. We were both reading different books and agreed to swap when we finished. But I realised I did not just want his book — I wanted his thoughts alongside it. Every passage he stopped at, every question he had, every connection he made while reading. That moment made me ask — why does reading have to be solitary? The best ideas I have ever had came from someone else's interpretation of the same page I was on. Yet every tool we have treats reading as a private activity. That was the problem I set out to solve. Scholia started as a simple annotation tool. You highlight, you note, others see it. But as I built it, the real insight became clear — it was not just about sharing notes. It was about making the thinking that happens around a text visible to the people reading alongside you. So it evolved. Threaded replies so conversations stay in context. Reactions so even quiet readers can engage. A discussion tab for bigger conversations. And AI explanation built directly into the reading experience — because some texts are genuinely hard and you should not have to leave the page to understand them. We are still early. This is beta. I am looking for real readers who will use it honestly and tell me what is missing. If you have ever finished a book and wished you could see inside someone else's reading of it — this is for you. Happy to answer anything. 🙏
