💡 What do you do to have better ideas?

by•

What's one thing you do everyday that has nothing to do with your product - but makes you a better founder?

Reading?
Walking?
Talking with people?
Cooking?
Something completely random?

For me, it's collecting information from different spheres.

I feel like the more diverse inputs I get, the richer my neural connections become - and the more interesting ideas and combinations I can create.

Also, walking helps a lot. Some of the best ideas appear when I'm away from the screen and my brain has space to connect the dots.

What do you do to have better ideas and build faster?

For me, it's taking a walk without my phone . Some of my best ideas show up when I stop trying to force them.

That’s actually a great point about the phone. It scatters our thoughts and mixes all the ideas together instead of letting them grow !

Respect for walking without a phone - that’s a real skill nowadays ))

What are you working on currently?

For me it's always something random, while applying conditioner and waiting for 5 mins before washing it, that is the time i get super interesting ideas 😅

But sometimes it is just same monotonous things and when you move yourself apart and see it in third person perspective you can see how you can fix those things by building something.

As a devops my daily task revolve around it, i make automations so try to find new and better things to solve my day to day workflow.

And doing that i got the idea to build Inventory.

Haha, the conditioner moment is actually a great example =)
And yes, zooming out from a specific task helps a lot. When you stop looking at the problem from inside the process and see the bigger picture, you start noticing patterns and opportunities to improve things.

For me it's learning something small every day — a new tool, a concept, sometimes just a word. It's become a routine I'd feel a little lost without.

And like you, walking. My best ideas never show up while I'm staring at the screen; they arrive halfway through a walk when I've stopped trying. 🌸

Funny how the brain does its best work the moment you stop pushing it :)

So true! The brain is quite funny - when we stop forcing it, it often starts connecting the dots in the background.

Interesting fact: your brain can continue processing a problem even when you’re not consciously thinking about it. That’s why ideas often appear during walks, showers, or right before sleep =D

Maybe walking is just a “creativity button” we accidentally discovered.

Talking to users always gives me better ideas than brainstorming alone. Real conversations change how I think. I think more founders should do this before building new features.

Only with user? Don’t conversations with teammates also push you toward new ideas?

What are you building?

Mine is boring and it is reading support tickets from a company I have nothing to do with. Different industry, ideally one I know nothing about. It works because ideas do not come from diverse inputs so much as from watching someone be frustrated in a domain where you have no existing explanation ready. In your own space you hear a complaint and immediately know why it happens, and the knowing shuts the thought down. Somewhere unfamiliar you have to sit in it. Adana, the walking thing you mention is doing something similar I think. It is not the walking, it is that you cannot look anything up while you do it.

I really like your point about exploring unknown spheres. It makes sense that unfamiliar problems force your brain to create new connections instead of relying on existing patterns.

You're right. Besides walking, I notice this also during long rides.

whenever i try NOT to come up with ideas haha
