What if your Mac’s camera or mic turns on and you miss it?

Hey Product Hunt,
I just shipped Privacy Watch in Room Service 1.4.0.
The problem I wanted to solve is simple: sometimes your camera or microphone becomes active in the background, and it is not always obvious which app caused it or whether you missed the moment it started.
Privacy Watch makes that signal harder to miss.
It shows realtime camera and microphone activity across the menu bar, title bar, Health Check, Settings > Privacy, notifications, and Ops Feed.
When available, it can also show which app is using the microphone, and likely camera attribution when macOS exposes enough information.
You can also enable notifications when camera or microphone activity starts.
Would love feedback from macOS users who spend a lot of time in calls, recordings, demos, or shared workspaces.

@ardacankrko What kind of users find this most valuable?
Room Service
@jonathan_hayes3 Initially I built it for developers, but I think the audience is broader than that.
Anyone who cares about privacy and wants better visibility into camera and microphone activity can get value from it, especially people who spend a lot of time in meetings, recordings, demos, or shared workspaces. 👍
@ardacankrko How accurate has app detection been in real use?
Room Service
@ellie_russell Good question. The activity signal itself is reliable: Room Service can tell when camera or mic activity starts.
Attribution is strongest for the mic, where macOS usually exposes the active input app. For camera, macOS is more limited: Room Service can detect the camera activity, and shows the likely app when there is enough signal. If not, it keeps it honest and shows the activity without guessing.
@ardacankrko What made you realize this problem needed solving?
Room Service
@christian_west1 Honestly, first myself, then my wife. 😅
We both spend a lot of time in meetings throughout the day, and we kept having those “wait, is my mic or camera still on?” moments. That felt like a problem worth making more visible 👀
@ardacankrko What's the most common reaction from new users?
Room Service
@ruby_diaz1 Most users immediately understand why they want it after the first notification
