Research Comments is a Chrome sidebar for reading papers. Highlight a passage, leave a comment, and the thread stays with the paper. Comments are tied to the DOI instead of the page URL. A discussion started on a preprint shows up again when someone opens the published version on a journal site. Notes can be private, shared with your lab, or public. Sharing is one link, and whoever you send it to does not need the extension to read it.

Hello everyone! I built this because research discussion keeps getting lost. You read a paper, you have a thought about one specific paragraph, and that thought ends up in a Slack message or an email or a screenshot somewhere. A few months later nobody can find it, and the paper itself has no memory of any of it. So the idea here is simple. Comments belong to the paper, not to a webpage. Everything is anchored to the DOI, so a thread someone starts on bioRxiv is still there when a colleague opens the published version on the journal site. What it does right now: Highlight a passage and comment on it while you read Reply, vote, and run polls on the paper Keep notes private, share them with a group, or make them public Send one link to share a whole thread or just a few comments Save papers into Projects so your reading builds into something It is aimed at labs, journal clubs, courses, and anyone who reads a lot of literature online. I would really like to hear how your group handles this today. Most people I talk to have some improvised system involving a shared doc and a lot of copy pasting. If that sounds like you, tell me what your version looks like. I will be here all day.
