Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Bianca, President of Operations at RescueTime. Really excited to share this with you today. We've just updated our iOS and Android apps and this is one we're really proud of — cleaner, sleeker, and faster than ever, but still the RescueTime you know and love. What's changed? We completely updated the mobile experience on iOS and brought back our Android app — bigger and better than ever. No manual entry, no guesswork — just automatic time tracking, distraction blocking, and clear insights into where your day actually goes, right in your pocket. But this is just the beginning. This update is the first of many. We have a lot more coming and we can't wait to share what's next. RescueTime has been around for over a decade and we're more excited about the road ahead than ever. @bianca_landis2 how do you capture activity on iOS? Isn’t it pretty locked down?
Bianca Landis

@chrismessina Great question! It is in regards to unable to show it on our desktop dashboard(due to Apple restriction). However, we are able to display it within the app.

Chris Messina

@bianca_landis2 that doesn't answer my question. I'm asking what kind of data are you're able to collect on iOS, and how you collect it.

Bianca Landis

@chrismessina whoops! Thanks for letting me know. We’re able to collect application name and time spent as well as as browser and time spent. You also have the ability to categorize those activities, but only within the app under the mobile tab, mobile activity does not display on timesheets or within the web app..This is information that is pulled from Apple Screen Time. I hope that helps clear things up a bit.

Automatic tracking is the only kind that actually works manual logging always falls off after a week. As a solo dev juggling dev and marketing, curious how it categorizes context switching between different types of work.

Bianca Landis

@imad_elkhafi Yes, we agree automatic time tracking is the way to go. Anything else is hard to maintain. In regards to context switching of different types of work we would love if you could send us a message to support@rescuetime.com with more thoughts what would be helpful to you. We do have switching to distractions, but other levels of work. But we’re always open to feedback and expanding features for our users.

💡 Bright idea

@bianca_landis2 Will do the context switching between deep work and shallow tasks is where I lose the most time. Happy to share more thoughts over email.

RescueTime has been a staple on desktop for years; seeing the mobile version get this level of polish is fantastic. Does the new automatic tracking handle 'focus sessions' that can sync back to the desktop app?

Bianca Landis

@rivra_dev I am so happy to see this comment! We worked really hard on it and are super excited to share it. Yes! Focus sessions that are started on the phone and/or desktop sink across all devices. You’re also able to schedule focus sessions from your phone now as well.
