How to optimize your content for AI

by
  • Fix schema first. Article/FAQ/Product schema is prerequisite infrastructure, not an add-on. Nothing else works without it.

  • Write for extraction. Clear headers, lists, direct Q&A pairs. Models cite comprehensible chunks, not clever prose.

  • Sequence by dependency. Don't chase authority signals before schema validates. Advanced tactics on broken foundations produce noise.

  • Make actions testable. Not "improve authority" — "3 citations in relevant threads, 500+ upvotes, linked back." If you can't verify it worked, it's not actionable.

  • Validate three levels: implemented → implemented correctly (schema passes, entities recognized) → moved citation rate. Most teams stop at level one.

  • Track per-model. Strong in ChatGPT, weak in Claude needs different fixes. Blended scores hide the signal.

  • Customize by vertical. SaaS needs docs and comparisons. E-commerce needs product schema and category content. Generic advice dies in translation.
