Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I built Prune because I wanted a Mac cleaner I could trust. Most of them come with a subscription, lock features behind a paywall, or ask you to take their word for what they delete.
Prune is a free, open-source Mac cleaner and uninstaller, built natively in Swift and SwiftUI. It’s 100% free, with no ads and no “Pro” version.
What’s inside:
🧹 Smart Scan: junk to clean and the state of macOS protections, in one click 🗑 Cleanup: caches, logs, Xcode and package managers, iPhone files, Mail attachments 🔒 Privacy: history, cookies and caches for Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera and Vivaldi. Passwords and bookmarks stay intact 📦 Uninstaller: remove apps completely and find leftovers of apps you already deleted 💽 Files: Space Lens disk map, large and old files, duplicates, secure shredder 📊 Dashboard and menu bar: CPU, memory, disk, network and battery in real time
Safety was the main design rule:
• Nothing is deleted without your confirmation • System and personal folders are protected • Your personal files go to the Trash, so you can undo
One honest note: Prune isn’t notarized by Apple yet (that needs a paid developer account), so macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open it: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. All the code is on GitHub, and every release lists its SHA-256 checksums.
What would you want a Mac cleaner to do that the others don’t? 🙏
