Hi all,
My frustrations with macOS' Stacks feature forced my hand. I utilize my Desktop quite a bit. I thought native Stacks would solve my organization problem, but trying to use them in practice is cumbersome and glitchy. If you open a stack with more than a handful of files, your screen just turns into a gigantic mess and your GPU stutters. So I created PopStack.
Simply click a Desktop folder and PopStack opens a fast popover so you can peak & access the contents right there (icon grid or list view), without opening Finder windows all over your screen.
- Optional Auto‑Sort: If you want, PopStack can sort Desktop files via configurable rules into folders (a native Stacks-style alternative, but more customizable).
- Smart Icons (optional): PopStack can automatically generate “stacked thumbnail” folder icons for folders it manages (again, to replace Stacks).
- Native + lightweight: Built to feel Mac-native and stay snappy.
I'm definitely open to feedback! I have a couple nice improvements planned. I'm hoping it's as useful for others as it has been for me. Let me know if you any questions!

honestly the best part is just how thoughtful this is. popovers instead of finder windows everywhere feels like such a small thing but it actually changes your workflow

Hi @chasegiunta
I purchased last night as this is exactly what I was looking for in the quest to keep my desktop tidy but really functional.
The only thing with the purchase process is that there are no links to the app download after you purchase. It did take me to what looked like a GitHub page automatically after purchase, but I couldn't download at the time as I was on my phone. Now I can't access the app to install.
I have sent an email separately, but just wanted to let you know here in case you don't get the email.
Looking forward to using PopStack 😎
@catnodes Yeah, bit of an oversight. The payment processor is supposed to provide a link to the final download. I thought it would be on the customer portal, but it doesn't look like they provide it there. Placing that on the site now. Thanks for the feedback.

Absolutely love this concept! Wish I could use it, but have an Intel Mac, so, bookmarking for later! That said, I was about to purchase, but then decided to download first (otherwise I would't have realized the silicone Mac requirement until after buying). Maybe consider making it more apparent- "optimized for silicon Macs" can be interpreted a few different ways.

@gabi16 No, sorry, macOS
I don’t know why you didn’t provide a download link on your site?
