What's your approach to handing your toddler your phone?

by•

Before I built Picture Book, my approach was "just don't" — which worked fine until a dinner where my toddler got restless and I caved, phone on the table, no plan for what happened next.

What bothered me wasn't screen time itself, it was where it usually leads: YouTube's pull, or the hyped-up, overstimulating videos made for kids. I didn't want a solution that just swapped one rabbit hole for another.

So instead of unlocking the whole phone, Picture Book hands over just the family photos — calm, real, already on the device, read-only, nothing to delete or wander into. Paired with Apple's Guided Access, the phone stays locked to the app.

Curious how other parents handle this moment — a dedicated app, Guided Access on its own, a specific setup, or something else entirely? What's actually worked for you?
