What's broken with today's AI Visibility tools?

Most AI visibility tools are getting roasted on Reddit and in SEO circles – and a lot of that criticism seems fair.

At PhantomRank, we’ve been interviewing founders, SEOs and agency folks and keep hearing the same issues:

  • Results are non‑deterministic, but vendors pretend the numbers are precise.

  • Dashboards are full of vague “AI visibility scores” with no clear next steps.

  • Methodologies are black‑box, so you can’t reproduce or audit anything.

  • There’s almost no link to pipeline or revenue – just pretty charts and non-verifiable data.

We’re building PhantomRank because we wanted something better: a way to measure how often (and how) brands show up in AI assistants without hand‑wavy metrics or hype.

But we’d rather not build this in a vacuum.

If you’ve tried any AI visibility / AI Overview / LLM monitoring tools:

  • What frustrated you the most?

  • What actually worked or felt useful?

  • If you could get one honest metric out of AI search, what would it be?

We’re working closely with a few founders and agencies who want a real solution here and are happy to shape PhantomRank around actual workflows, not just our assumptions.

Drop your experiences, rants, or “must‑have” ideas below – even if it’s “I don’t think this space is real yet.” We’ll respond transparently and, where it makes sense, bake your feedback into what we’re shipping.
