What's broken with today's AI Visibility tools?
Most AI visibility tools are getting roasted on Reddit and in SEO circles – and a lot of that criticism seems fair.
At PhantomRank, we’ve been interviewing founders, SEOs and agency folks and keep hearing the same issues:
Results are non‑deterministic, but vendors pretend the numbers are precise.
Dashboards are full of vague “AI visibility scores” with no clear next steps.
Methodologies are black‑box, so you can’t reproduce or audit anything.
There’s almost no link to pipeline or revenue – just pretty charts and non-verifiable data.
We’re building PhantomRank because we wanted something better: a way to measure how often (and how) brands show up in AI assistants without hand‑wavy metrics or hype.
But we’d rather not build this in a vacuum.
If you’ve tried any AI visibility / AI Overview / LLM monitoring tools:
What frustrated you the most?
What actually worked or felt useful?
If you could get one honest metric out of AI search, what would it be?
We’re working closely with a few founders and agencies who want a real solution here and are happy to shape PhantomRank around actual workflows, not just our assumptions.
