I switched from 1Password to my own passlock — here's what 2 months of daily use taught me

I was a paying cloud password manager user for years. Then the LastPass breach happened, and I started feeling uneasy — my entire vault, sitting on someone else's server.

So I did something a little extreme: I started building my own offline password manager in Rust called passlock, and fully switched over two months ago.

After using my own tool daily for 2 months, here's what I actually learned:

• It's faster — no sync delays, no "checking for updates" spinner

• I sleep better — my vault literally never leaves my machine

• The smart generator saved me — I used to reuse passwords because generating good ones was a hassle. Now I generate a strong one in 2 clicks with a real-time crack time estimate

One thing that surprised me: I thought I'd miss cloud sync. But honestly? I manage my passwords on one device and it's totally fine.

I'm not saying offline is for everyone — but for me, the trade-off has been 100% worth it.
