Papyr - A private document scanner with no ads or subscriptions

by
Papyr is a document scanner for iPhone that doesn't track you, show ads, or charge a subscription. Auto edge detection, OCR with full-text search, and PDF export. Everything runs locally. Zero third-party SDKs. Zero network requests. Apple's privacy label: "Data Not Collected." Free: unlimited scans, OCR, search, PDF export. Pro ($9.99 once): folders, batch scan, password-protected PDFs.

Hey PH. I'm Montrell. I built Papyr over a weekend because I was tired of every scanner app being either ad-infested, subscription-locked, or quietly uploading my documents to someone's cloud. The whole thing went from zero to App Store in about 3 days. I used AI pretty heavily during development (Claude for architecture, Codex for implementation), which is how I shipped a full-featured native iOS app that fast as a solo developer. A few things I care about with this one: Privacy is the product, not a feature. There are zero network requests in the entire app. No analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no telemetry. Your scans physically cannot leave your device because there's no code to send them anywhere. No subscription. The free version gives you unlimited scans, OCR, search, and PDF export. Pro ($9.99 one-time) adds folders, batch scanning, and password-protected PDFs. Pay once, done. Native Swift/SwiftUI. No React Native, no web views. It feels like it belongs on your phone because it was built specifically for your phone. Would love feedback on what's missing or what would make you switch from whatever you're using now. Happy to answer questions about the build process or AI-assisted development too.
