What’s your panic shortcut when someone walks behind you?

Launch day is over

Really enjoyed the discussions around PanicMode during the launch. Funny to realize almost everyone already has their own version of a "panic shortcut":

  • alt-tabbing into a terminal

  • minimizing everything manually

  • using privacy screen filters

  • pretending to debug something important

PanicMode basically came from wanting a cleaner and more natural version of that moment.

A few people already downloaded and tried the app, so I’m genuinely curious about real usage feedback too:

  • did the shortcut feel instant enough?

  • did the workspace look believable?

  • would you actually keep something like this installed?

  • what kind of situations would make you use it?

Also curious whether people prefer the Office workspace or the Developer one right now.

Thanks again everyone for the comments and feedback during the launch.

Honestly my panic shortcuts is just the classic: Cmd and Tab → Notes / browser tab that looks vaguely productive 😄

For PanicMode, the real test isn’t the shortcut it’s whether it feels instant or believable in under half a second. If there’s even a tiny delay or awkward animation, the illusion breaks. And between Office vs Developer workspace: dev mode will probably feel more “safe default,” but office mode might actually be more convincing in real world public spaces.

@aisha_muhammad_yaya Yes exactly, if the switch is not instant then the whole illusion breaks.

One thing that annoyed me with the Cmd+Tab approach is that it’s unpredictable sometimes and can still expose the wrong thing for a second. I also got tired of always opening the same tab or notes app every time someone walked behind me.

That’s basically where PanicMode came from. I wanted something consistent that already looks believable the moment it appears.
