I’ve been programming my whole life — for more than 35 years. Back in 2010, my brother and I launched an online store. It grew too quickly, and during New Year’s we ran into a huge problem: the warehouse couldn’t handle the flood of orders. We weren’t able to ship even half of them. Since then, warehouse automation has become my second (well, maybe third - programming, e-commerce, warehouse automation) passion!
In 2013, based on our online store, we founded a company that provides warehouse services (a fulfillment operator).
So, I know how a warehouse really works from firsthand experience. I’ve spent hundreds of hours as a developer, as a manager, and even as a regular warehouse worker.
Three years ago, I moved abroad with my family. It took a couple of years to settle in, find work (by the way, here I too automated warehouses and the operations of a fairly large retail chain), and get our life in order. And then, at the beginning of 2025, I decided to bring all my knowledge together and build my own cloud WMS!
At first, the project was meant to be completely free. Just a hobby. I simply wanted to turn my accumulated experience into something real. ;) But gradually, it started taking more and more of my time, at the expense of other projects and work. That’s why in September 2025, I decided to introduce paid plans (while still keeping a free one).
By the way, if someone can’t or doesn’t want to pay and the free plan isn’t enough, just email me at dn@nwms.cloud - I’ll happily give you a paid account as a gift. It’s not critical for me. Use it and, hopefully, enjoy it! :)
And that’s how NWMS was born.
The project is written in PHP (Laravel). Right now, it’s already being used by several warehouses, and I’m in the process of launching it at several more. But the project is still very young (it is only 7 months old)!
Both the website and the application interface are translated into 17 languages (including Klingon ;)), thanks to AI. Right after the code is deployed, the program translates itself via the OpenAI API.
At the moment, it’s a fully working WMS - but really, this is just the beginning of the journey!
Ahead are many things that I believe such software must have:
- Different picking methods (wave picking with batch sorting, wave picking with direct sorting, order-based with navigation, etc.).
- Lots of integration modules with delivery services, SaaS platforms, and marketplaces.
- Tons of features and conveniences.
So, even though this is deeply specialized B2B software, I believe it has a bright future — and I’d be glad to find an audience with whom I can share my news and knowledge!
