What tools do developers actually need every day?

by•

As a developer, you can spend a surprising amount of time on small tasks outside the main coding work — converting data formats, inspecting files, checking network information, debugging text, or testing web performance.

Individually, these tasks are simple. But switching between different websites and tools can interrupt your workflow.

I've been building Noloii, a collection of free online tools, including resources for developers and technical workflows.

I'm interested in understanding what developers actually find useful, rather than simply adding more tools to an already crowded internet.

For example, some developers prefer command-line utilities because they're fast and scriptable. Others prefer browser-based tools for quick checks without installing anything.

Both approaches have their place.

I'd love to hear from developers and makers here:

  1. What's one small task that regularly interrupts your coding workflow?

  2. Which developer tool do you use so often that you couldn't imagine working without it?

  3. For quick tasks, do you prefer browser-based tools, CLI utilities, IDE extensions, or desktop apps?

  4. What's a simple developer tool you wish existed — or one you use today that could be much better?

I'm building Noloii and would genuinely value ideas from people who work with these tools every day. Specific examples and constructive criticism are especially welcome.
