I'm Palak — one of the makers behind NEXA.
The problem we kept running into: the opportunities that actually change someone's trajectory — a fellowship, a scholarship, a first job, a way into an industry you don't have connections in — almost never show up by searching a job board. They show up because someone who's already there taps you on the shoulder and says "you should apply to this" or "let me introduce you to someone."
That's incredibly powerful when you have it. Most people don't.
So we built NEXA to be that tap on the shoulder — at scale.
Discover — opportunities (jobs, fellowships, scholarships, programs) matched to where you actually are, not a generic feed
Connect — a real network of women mentors who've walked a similar path and are willing to help, for free
Talk — message a mentor directly, ask for advice, get pointed in the right direction
Give back — once you're a few steps ahead yourself, register as a mentor and be that person for someone else
We're not trying to be another directory you scroll past. We wanted something that feels more like a person than a platform.
This is still early, and honestly the most valuable thing you can give us today isn't an upvote — it's telling us what's confusing, what's missing, or what you'd want to see next. We're building this in public and genuinely reading everything.

Mentors on NEXA set up their own profile with topics they can help with, their experience, and languages/location. We match that against what a user has shared about their goals and interests, and show a match score with the specific reasons behind it — never a black box.
From there, the user sends one initial request (topic + a short message), the mentor accepts or declines, and once accepted a private message thread opens up so they can keep talking directly. No group calls or scheduling layer yet — it's intentionally simple for now.
That's really a missed opportunity always when u are capable of that scholarship but it never showed up in ur feed. I just hope we no longer miss opportunities that we were meant to get into!
