🪟 Netfox 0.22.0 — tile it, and it becomes a widget

Hey everyone 👋

Netfox 0.22.0 is out, and it is about one thing: the window finally behaves when you tile it.

It used to refuse to go narrower than 960 points. So if you put it beside the thing you were actually working on, its right edge went off the screen. It was an app you opened, glanced at, and closed 🙄

It now goes down to 500 × 340 — and instead of squeezing the same layout into less room, it changes shape.

🧩 Below a certain size, each tool stops being a shrunken page and becomes a widget: the figures that matter, all on screen at once, nothing to scroll, nothing overlapping.

📏 The sidebar retracts below 720 points, where it was eating 44% of the width and earning none of it. The five tools stay on the View menu with ⌘1–⌘5, and a toolbar button brings it back at any size.

🔍 Where a list and a detail panel genuinely cannot both fit, you get one at a time with a way back — instead of two squeezed until neither reads.

📊 And the row counts are arithmetic, not a guess. A shared budget works out how many rows fit and how many have to be counted instead. That and 24 more is the second number — which is what stops a widget from ever needing a scrollbar.

🐛 One bug worth owning, because it hid behind a green test suite. A background scan could previously shove a detail panel in front of you that you never asked for. Fixing that meant teaching the app to tell you asked from something happened — and the first version of that definition left out the most obvious case of all: a plain click on a row. In a narrow window, clicking a device did nothing visible. 959 tests were passing throughout 😅 It is fixed, and there is now a check that clicks a row at that size and fails if nothing opens.

🗳️ Also: VoiceOver is told when the window changes shape, Window → Default Size rescues an over-shrunk window, and all seventeen new strings ship in seven languages.
